Here’s a simple and delicious steamed muffins recipe that’s fluffy, moist, and easy to make. These muffins are a great alternative to baked muffins and can be customized with your favorite flavors.

Steamed Muffins Recipe

Servings: 6-8 muffins

Ingredients:

  • 1 ½ cups (190g) all-purpose flour
  • ½ cup (100g) sugar
  • 1 ½ tsp baking powder
  • ¼ tsp salt
  • ½ cup (120ml) milk (or plant-based milk)
  • 1 large egg
  • ¼ cup (60ml) melted butter or oil (vegetable/coconut)
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract (optional)
  • Optional add-ins: Chocolate chips, blueberries, nuts, or cinnamon

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the steamer:
    • Fill a steamer pot or large saucepan with water (about 1-2 inches deep) and bring to a boil.
    • Grease muffin molds or small heatproof cups (ramekins work too).
  2. Mix dry ingredients:
    • In a bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
  3. Mix wet ingredients:
    • In another bowl, beat the egg, then add milk, melted butter/oil, and vanilla. Mix well.
  4. Combine:
    • Pour the wet mixture into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined (do not overmix).
    • Fold in any add-ins (chocolate chips, fruits, etc.).
  5. Fill & steam:
    • Spoon the batter into greased molds, filling about ¾ full.
    • Place in the steamer, cover with a lid (wrap lid with a cloth to prevent dripping), and steam on medium heat for 15-20 minutes (or until a toothpick comes out clean).
  6. Serve:
    • Let cool slightly, then remove from molds. Enjoy warm!

Tips:

✔ For fluffier muffins, ensure the steamer is hot before adding the batter.
✔ Try flavor variations like matcha, cocoa powder, or citrus zest.
✔ If using frozen fruits, coat them in flour first to prevent sinking.
