Onion Beef Fried Rice Recipe

Ingredients (Serves 2-3)

  • 2 cups cooked rice (preferably day-old or chilled)
  • 200g beef (sirloin, flank, or any tender cut), thinly sliced
  • 1 large onion, thinly sliced
  • 2-3 garlic cloves, minced
  • 2 eggs, beaten
  • 2-3 green onions, chopped (for garnish)
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon oyster sauce
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil (for cooking)
  • Optional: 1/2 cup frozen peas and carrots (for added veggies)

Instructions

  1. Marinate the Beef:
    • In a bowl, combine the sliced beef with 1 tablespoon soy sauce, 1/2 teaspoon sugar, and 1/2 teaspoon black pepper. Mix well and let it marinate for 10-15 minutes.
  2. Cook the Beef:
    • Heat 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat.
    • Add the marinated beef and stir-fry for 2-3 minutes until browned but not fully cooked. Remove the beef and set aside.
  3. Cook the Eggs:
    • In the same skillet, add a little more oil if needed.
    • Pour in the beaten eggs and scramble them until just set. Remove and set aside with the beef.
  4. Stir-Fry the Onions:
    • Add the remaining oil to the skillet.
    • Sauté the sliced onions and minced garlic for 2-3 minutes until softened and fragrant.
  5. Combine Everything:
    • Add the cooked rice to the skillet and break up any clumps.
    • Stir in the remaining soy sauce, oyster sauce, and sesame oil. Mix well to coat the rice evenly.
    • Add the cooked beef, scrambled eggs, and optional peas and carrots. Stir-fry for another 2-3 minutes until everything is heated through.
  6. Garnish and Serve:
    • Sprinkle with chopped green onions.
    • Serve hot and enjoy!

Tips

  • Use day-old rice for the best texture. Freshly cooked rice can be too moist and sticky.
  • Adjust the seasoning to your taste by adding more soy sauce or a dash of chili sauce for heat.
  • For extra flavor, you can add a splash of fish sauce or a pinch of five-spice powder.
