Witch’s fingers are the recipe for one of the most horrible but fun Halloween desserts ! They are simple butter biscuits with a funny and jokey shape, which will entertain adults and children.
Ingredients
- 100 g of butter
- 280 g of flour
- 1 level teaspoon of chemical baking powder
- 1 pinch of salt
- 1 medium egg
- 1 sachet of vanillin
- 100 g of icing sugar
- 22 peeled almonds
- dark jam or strawberry topping
Instructions
- In a large bowl place the flour, the cold butter cut into pieces, the egg, the icing sugar, the vanilla, the salt and the yeast.
Knead the ingredients in the bowl until you obtain a ball, then continue kneading on a pastry board until the dough is smooth and homogeneous. - Once you have obtained the dough for the biscuits, form a sausage, divide it into pieces weighing approximately 25 g each, until you obtain approximately 20 pieces.
- Work each piece with the palms of your hands, transforming it into a stick about 10-12 cm long.
- Shape the knuckles of your fingers by thinning the dough just before and after them; then scratch them lightly with a small knife with a smooth blade.
- On the ends of your fingers, place a peeled almond, pressing it lightly: it will act as a nail. At this point, place the witches’ fingers on a baking tray previously lined with baking paper, leaving a space of about 3 cm between them. Bake the biscuits at 180° C in a preheated oven for about 20 minutes, then remove the witch’s fingers and leave them to cool.
- Once cooled, you will surely notice that some almonds will detach from the top of the biscuits: to fix them more firmly, dip the part of the almond that rested on the biscuit in the jam and then reposition it in its original place.
- To make your witch’s fingers even more macabre, you can “bloody” them with strawberry jam or topping.
- In a large bowl place the flour, the cold butter cut into pieces, the egg, the icing sugar, the vanilla, the salt and the yeast.
