Cookies Shekerpare

Cookies “Shekerpare”

Sweet piece, that’s how the name translates.Turkish pastries are varied and incredibly tasty! Preparing Shekerpare cookies is easy: mix the shortbread dough while it cools and cook the orange syrup. We bake cookies, pour in syrup and, after about an hour, you can brew strong tea! This recipe contains orange syrup and almonds, and there are too many Shekerpare cookies, I will definitely bake different ones and share the recipe with photos.

Ingredients for shortcrust pastry:

  • 60 g butter;
  • 30 g vanilla powdered sugar;
  • 1 egg;
  • 20 g semolina;
  • 130 g wheat flour;
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder;
  • 15 almonds.

Ingredients for syrup:

  • 100 ml orange juice;
  • 25 g lemon juice;
  • 110 g granulated sugar;
  • lemon zest.

Step-by-step cooking recipe

Step 1:

Beat butter softened at room temperature with vanilla powdered sugar for several minutes.

Step 2:

Break the egg and mix the ingredients with a whisk.

Step 3:

Pour in semolina.

Step 4:

Pour in wheat flour mixed with baking powder.

Step 5:

Quickly knead the dough and put it in the refrigerator for 15-30 minutes.

Step 6:

Making syrup. While the dough is cooling, squeeze the juice from the orange and lemon, add granulated sugar and lemon zest. Heat the syrup to a boil, boil for a couple of minutes, cool to room temperature.

Step 7:

Roll the dough into walnut-sized balls. One cookie requires 20-23 g of dough. Place the balls on a parchment-lined baking sheet.

Step 8:

Flatten the balls and stick almonds into the middle.

Step 9:

Place the baking sheet in an oven preheated to 180 degrees Celsius for 15 minutes, bake until golden brown.

Step 10:

Remove the cookies from the paper, place them in a deep pan, and while still hot, pour in the orange syrup.

Step 11:

Leave the Shekerpare cookies in the syrup for 1-2 hours. I periodically pour syrup on top of it to help it soak in better. Bon appetit!
