These baked ham and cheese croissants are a delicious and easy-to-make treat, perfect for breakfast, brunch, or a quick snack. Flaky, buttery croissants are filled with savory ham and melted cheese for a satisfying bite.
Ingredients (Makes 6 croissants)
- 6 store-bought croissants (or homemade, if preferred)
- 6 slices of ham (or more, depending on size)
- 6 slices of cheese (Swiss, cheddar, or your favorite melting cheese)
- 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard (optional, for added flavor)
- 1 egg (for egg wash)
- 1 tablespoon water
- Optional: Poppy seeds or sesame seeds for topping
Instructions
- Preheat the oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat.
- Prepare the croissants: Slice the croissants in half horizontally, like you would for a sandwich. Be careful not to cut all the way through.
- Add the fillings:
- If using, spread a thin layer of Dijon mustard on the inside of each croissant.
- Layer a slice of ham and a slice of cheese inside each croissant. You can add more ham or cheese if desired.
- Close the croissants: Gently press the croissants closed.
- Prepare the egg wash: In a small bowl, whisk together the egg and water. Brush the tops of the croissants with the egg wash. This will give them a shiny, golden finish. Sprinkle with poppy seeds or sesame seeds if desired.
- Bake: Place the croissants on the prepared baking sheet and bake in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes, or until the croissants are golden brown and the cheese is melted.
- Serve: Remove from the oven and let cool for a few minutes before serving. Enjoy warm!
Tips
- For extra flavor, add a sprinkle of herbs like thyme or rosemary before baking.
- If you prefer a crispier texture, bake for an additional 2-3 minutes.
- These croissants are best served fresh but can be stored in an airtight container for up to 1 day and reheated in the oven.
