Ingredients:

Dry Ingredients:

  • 2 cups (250g) all-purpose flour
  • ½ cup (100g) granulated sugar
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • ½ tsp baking soda
  • ¼ tsp salt
  • Zest of 1 large orange (about 1 tbsp)

Wet Ingredients:

  • ½ cup (120ml) fresh orange juice (about 1 large orange)
  • ½ cup (120ml) milk (or buttermilk for extra tenderness)
  • ⅓ cup (75g) melted butter or vegetable oil
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Mix-ins:

  • ¾ cup (130g) semi-sweet or dark chocolate chips

Optional Topping:

  • 1 tbsp coarse sugar (for crunch)
  • Extra orange zest

Instructions:

  1. Preheat & Prep:
    • Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
    • Line a 12-cup muffin tin with paper liners or grease well.
  2. Mix Dry Ingredients:
    • In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and orange zest.
  3. Combine Wet Ingredients:
    • In another bowl, whisk orange juice, milk, melted butter, egg, and vanilla until smooth.
  4. Make the Batter:
    • Pour wet ingredients into dry ingredients and stir just until combined (do not overmix).
    • Gently fold in chocolate chips.
  5. Bake:
    • Divide batter evenly into muffin cups (fill ¾ full).
    • Sprinkle with coarse sugar or extra zest if desired.
    • Bake 18–20 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  6. Cool & Serve:
    • Let cool 5 minutes in the pan, then transfer to a wire rack.
