Ancient Cake


This Ancient Cake is a world famous Japanese dessert. The cake is especially popular in Taiwan. It was there that they began to make it in their own way.


  • Wheat Flour – ¾ cup (100 g)
  • Milk – ½ cup (100 ml)
  • Eggs – 6
  • Butter – ½ cup (100 g)
  • Sugar – ½ cup (100 g)
  • Vanilla Extract – to taste


  1. Separate the egg whites from the yolks. Sift the flour. Then combine the milk and butter in a saucepan.
  2. Melt the ingredients over low heat. Next, pour the hot mixture into the flour and thoroughly mix. Add the egg yolks one at a time.
  3. Then add vanilla extract to the batter. Beat the egg whites with sugar until stiff peaks. Next, pour the rest of the batter to the egg whites.
  4. Mix the mixture carefully. At the same time, stir the batter clockwise, and move the bowl counterclockwise.
  5. Wrap the cake pan outside with tin foil. Line the inside with parchment paper.
  6. Pour the batter into the pan and smooth out the surface. Place the pan into a larger pan. Fill it with hot water at least 180 °F (80 °C).
  7. Put the cake in the oven for 70 minutes at 300 °F (150 °C).
