Ingredients

For the Brownies:

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 tbsp red food coloring (gel or liquid)
  • 1 tsp white vinegar
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 3/4 cup all-purpose flour

For the Cream Cheese Frosting:

  • 4 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 1/2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract

Instructions

1. Preheat and Prepare:

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line an 8×8-inch baking pan with parchment paper or grease it lightly.

2. Make the Brownie Batter:

  1. In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over low heat. Remove from heat and whisk in the granulated sugar and brown sugar until smooth.
  2. Add the eggs one at a time, whisking well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.
  3. Mix in the cocoa powder, red food coloring, and white vinegar until fully combined.
  4. Gently fold in the salt and flour until just incorporated. Be careful not to overmix.

3. Bake the Brownies:

  1. Pour the batter into the prepared pan and spread it evenly.
  2. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with a few moist crumbs (not wet batter).
  3. Let the brownies cool completely in the pan before frosting.

4. Make the Cream Cheese Frosting:

  1. In a mixing bowl, beat the softened cream cheese and butter until smooth and creamy.
  2. Gradually add the powdered sugar and vanilla extract, mixing until the frosting is light and fluffy.

5. Frost and Serve:

  1. Spread the cream cheese frosting evenly over the cooled brownies.
  2. Cut into squares and serve. For a neat presentation, wipe the knife clean between cuts.

Tips for Success:

  • Use gel food coloring for a more vibrant red color without affecting the batter’s consistency.
  • Don’t overbake the brownies—they should be fudgy and moist.
  • For a marbled effect, swirl the cream cheese frosting into the brownie batter before baking.
  • Store the brownies in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 5 days.

Enjoy these decadent Red Velvet Brownies—they’re perfect for holidays, parties, or any time you’re craving something sweet and indulgent!
