Here’s a simple and delicious recipe for Spoon Fritters (also known as “Drop Fritters” or “Batter Fritters”), a quick and versatile snack or side dish that can be sweet or savory.

Basic Spoon Fritters Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1 tbsp sugar (optional, for sweet fritters)
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 cup milk (adjust for desired thickness)
  • 1 tbsp melted butter or oil
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract (for sweet version)
  • Oil for frying

Optional Add-Ins (Customizable!):

  • Sweet: Cinnamon, mashed banana, blueberries, apple chunks, chocolate chips
  • Savory: Grated cheese, chopped herbs (parsley, chives), corn, diced ham

Instructions:

  1. Mix Dry Ingredients: In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar (if making sweet fritters).
  2. Add Wet Ingredients: Beat in the egg, milk, melted butter, and vanilla (if using). Stir until smooth. The batter should be thick but drop easily from a spoon.
  3. Fold in Extras: Gently mix in any add-ins (fruit, cheese, herbs, etc.).
  4. Heat Oil: In a pan, heat about 1/2 inch of oil over medium heat (350°F/175°C).
  5. Fry: Drop spoonfuls of batter into the hot oil. Fry for 2-3 minutes per side until golden brown.
  6. Drain & Serve: Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels. Serve warm!

Sweet Serving Idea: Dust with powdered sugar or drizzle with honey.
Savory Serving Idea: Serve with sour cream, salsa, or a dipping sauce.

Enjoy your crispy-on-the-outside, fluffy-on-the-inside fritters! Let me know if you’d like variations. 😊
